Had me and my high school students hooked

“The author, Lewis, does a wonderful job showing the negative sides of what it is like inside a child celeb’s mind. My teenage English students particularly loved this because there is this ideal of fame, a godly halo effect. This book helps portray a different perspective and allows the reader to crawl inside one’s shoes in order to understand what a young celebrity may go through on a day-to-day basis dealing with relationships and societal pressures. I would highly recommend this read for high-school or adults. The author writes with feeling and emotion with a story line that is not confusing to follow! Thank you, Lewis, for providing a great read for my students to get lost in!” Jen

FIVE BLOODY STARS AS WELL!!! I’m well chuffed about that, and I’m going to spend the rest of the day walking around with a swagger in my step. Let me know if any of you are interested in spending your hard earned cash on this bad boy. Alternatively you can buy the Kindle version for much cheaper through Amazon. I’ll leave a link to my Amazon page at the bottom of this post.

I’m a fiction writer and write all different genres from comedy to horror. But I’m not really looking for sales. Yeah, sales would be nice because it would help me pay the bills. But my primary focus is to get these books out there to people so they can enjoy the stories I create. For those of you who want to check out my Facebook page click the link above. For any of you who want to view my Amazon page I’ll post the link below. My reviews speak for themselves. I’m not really interested in making money (in fact some of my books are on Kindle Unlimited so you can get them for free) I’m far more interested in reaching a new audience and inspiring people.

The Vegan Month!: Day 25, The Cravings…

Anyone would think I was pregnant! Basically, the cravings for meat are becoming unbearable. I’d like to think that this the last bit of fight my body is putting up before I end up skipping off into the sunset with my bachelors degree in veganism, but who am I kidding… I know exactly what’s going on; My stomach senses that the end of the month is on the horizon, and it’s screaming out for cheese, chicken, milk, pizzas, fast food… You name it, my stomach wants it, and it wants it now.

On no less than FOUR separate occasions yesterday I said to myself out loud, “Fuck it! I’m getting a cheeseburger!” But I know how guilty I’ll feel if I do’t see this out until the end of the month, so pass me the lentil burgers…

Today I weaved in and out of the traffic to get to Bee Vegan. Bee Vegan is normally an excellent restaurant, but today they either had an off day or a new chef because the massaman curry was very watery. Oh well, you win some you lose some. I’ll be back…

At around 6:30 I was starting to feel really light headed, as in I knew I had to take it easy or I could have fainted. I took it easy until I finished work, then headed straight to Rimping (The supermarket) to stock up on odds and sods. There’s a national mourning day tomorrow so all of the shops and restaurants will be closed. Point being, I got some crisps, dark chocolate biscuits and vegetarian instant noodles.

SIX DAYS TO GO!!!!!!!!!

Cost So Far

I want to keep tally (for me as well as you) about what I’ve bought over the month and how much it cost. To give you an idea I round up 50 baht to the Pound. If you are dealing with Dollars it is around 35, but round it down to 30 to make it easier to tally up…

20171007_135401.jpg

Day 24:

Massaman curry and brown rice – 65 Baht
2 x Packets of crisps – 38 Baht
2 x McVities food orgasms – 118 Baht
2 x Packs of instant noodles – 12 Baht
Stir fried vegetables and rice – 30 Baht

Today’s Total: 263 Baht

Overall Total: 4155 Baht

“I started this book earlier this evening and could not put it down. This is the second book I have read written by this author and I was not disappointed in the slightest. The way the author writes is captivating and always makes you want to continue reading. I am looking forward to reading the rest of his work.” Charlotte-Eva Lindsay

Reviews For My Books So Far…

.

The Price of Fame© A psychological drama following a child actor in their adult life trying to cope with the knock on effects of constantly being in the public eye.

(4 reviews)

“I love this Author’s original style. I was gripped by the emotional ups and downs of his character’s life, in a story which delves into the mind of a troubled soul, one you want to reach out to and help as a friend.”

“A brilliant story. Well written. You feel a lot of empathy for the central character. It opens your eyes and really makes you think! Very sad at times but a good ending!!!”

“A really good read, for a first time author. I enjoyed the interesting storyline that had a few twists. Looking forward to reading more from this author.”

“Really enjoyed reading this book, I am not a big reader but it kept me hooked from start to finish , now looking forward to reading more from this author.”

The Butterfly Killings© A horror, written in a ‘dear diary’ format. This follows a murderer when they are released from prison after killing someone when they were a child, documenting their struggle to deal with their new identity.

(7 reviews)

“The author has been very clever when writing this, as it has some huge plot twists. I really enjoyed reading it and found that I couldn’t put it down, very addictive. I can’t wait to read more books by this author.”

“I love this book I have bought more of books of the author and looking forward to reading them already !! This book needs to be read”

“I did enjoy The Butterfly Killings. It’s a dark tale of a disturbed mind which, left unhealed, takes you on a journey to redemption.”

“This writer shows lots of promise..had me fooled for a while!”

“This book takes a different perspective on child killers and their ingratiation back into society. An interesting read and cleverly written book.”

“This book is a great read, especially if your are looking for a story that you are able to finish easily in a single day. Clarke takes you on journey as you see how someone is coping with a new identity after committing a crime. While the beginning of the story starts off a bit slow once you get past the first few pages it picks up and you are taken in the mind of Chris while experiencing a few twists and turns along the way. One wish I had for the book is the character development and story between Chris and Keira. I felt that it was a bit rushed and this relationship is important for Chris’s character. Overall, I thought the book was a great read, easy to get through and you could easily finish it within a day!”

“An entertaining and quick read. The plot twists keep you on your toes throughout the story, which focuses on the development of the main character.”

Destiny© A comedy. A young man’s dream of becoming a comedian is buried deep down so no one is aware of it. That is until he meets a girl who has ambitions to succeed in another field. When he opens up to her and tells her about his secret dream job they make a pact to help each other mentally and drive each other to success

(1 review)

“I really enjoyed this book and didn’t want it to end. I think it brings a valid message and without giving too much away, proves that alcohol is an unnecessary prop when you have faith in your Destiny.”

LEWIS TALKTOMECOVER (2)

Talk To Me© A romantic comedy that features a man in his mid twenties called Ross. Ross is painfully shy around women and is getting fed up of watching everyone else settle down and because of his own insecurities he can’t seem to even get a conversation going with a girl. So one day he makes a bet with himself; he HAS to talk to a girl for at least five minutes every day for an entire month

(2 reviews)

“I was gripped from the beginning and enjoyed following his character’s journey of self help and realisation.
I started reading this on a ferry journey and it almost felt like I had found a lost diary on an empty seat as it was so naturally written.”

“I gave this book a try after a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. At first I just wanted to read a few pages just to get an idea of what the book was about and before I knew it I was a quarter of the way through it. Ross seemed to have his issues but I found myself rooting for him, and getting annoyed at characters that were messing him about! Nice and easy read and I can’t wait to read this author’s other work.”

Click on the descriptions to view them in the original Amazon.com page. Some reviews are on the Amazon.co.uk page which is why they haven’t shown up. There is a review on the Amazon.co.jp page but unless you are fluent in Japanese I felt it was pretty pointless to put it up…

Stop 2: Kings Langley School

About a year ago when I did my last travelling trip I made a promise to one of my teachers that I would visit my old school one day and drop off a load of my books to the people that educated me, because to be fair if they didn’t do such a good job none of my books would exist anyway, or they would but they’d be absolutely terrible…

Now it was time for me to make good on my promise. Before I left Suffolk I brought my final ten copies of my first book with me. I let my music teacher know that I was on the way and she booked an appointment for me.

I walked through a rainstorm, but I finally made my way up the hill towards the school. I must admit a lot of memories I had as a fifteen year old came flooding back. I went in and was immediately aware that I wasn’t in fact a student anymore, and felt very uncomfortable walking around the premises.

The whole place was strangely cordoned off. I asked around how to get to reception (which is right at the front of the school, but you couldn’t get to it) and eventually made my way around the old music block and gym changing rooms to walk towards the three storey block. I was stopped by a man in a high-visibility jacket and I asked him if I could get to reception through there.

“Not through there mate, this is a demolition zone…” He replied firmly. Then he pointed towards the tennis courts and said I needed to walk that way. Only that the tennis courts didn’t exist anymore, instead there was a huge overwhelming building in its place, which I soon found out fit the whole school in the one building…

I nervously walked into reception and tried to point out that I wasn’t a weird bloke offering teenagers a bag of sweets and that I had a genuine reason for being there, I was then led to the music block by a sudent who seemed disinterested in everything. To be fair he was a teenager and I hated everything when I was that age.

I said hello to Mrs Mendelsohn and waited 15 minutes for her class to finish. While I waited I chatted to the other music teacher who talked proudly about her little girl. Once the class was over Mrs Mendelsohn said she was surprised to see me and thought I was coming after school, so long story short I had to go grab some lunch and come back after lunch was over.

Take two: I grabbed my bag of books and started handing them out to teachers. I gave one to Mrs Arnold and smiled as she said she recognized me (I reckon she was being polite…) and one to the library. I apologized and whispered that there were swear words in the book. the librarian laughed and said that it won’t be a problem.

We went on a tour around the whole school, which to be fair looked like a Scooby Doo cartoon because it all looked the same. At first I thought the music department was really good even though it wasn’t as good as the last music department (To be fair everything in that department was top of the range with loads of room), but when I saw how big some of the rooms were for technology for example, I felt bad for the music department because the classes were big, but not as big as they were in the old department. Plus there were only five music practice rooms when there used to be six.

Towards the end of the ‘tour’ we saw two kids who were about fourteen sitting outside the headmaster’s office. They were saying that they were about to be excluded from school for separate various reasons. When we left and went to the hall Mrs Mendelsohn started passionately praising the girl (whose name escapes me…) saying she loved music and was a great singer, but had very little interest in school.

This really resonated with me; I had issues at school that I don’t want to go into, but ultimately I had no interest in school and it showed. So as we went to reception to sign out I asked if I could give one of my books to the young girl. Mrs Mendelsohn said it was a good idea and I went to see the girl.

She’d gone somewhere, but the boy was still there. So I gave the boy the book and asked him to give the girl the book when she came back. I then gave a passionate speech saying that I hated school when I was younger and failed all my exams, but eventually I followed my passion, believed in myself and got to the position I am in today through hard work and belief. I don’t know if she got the book in the end or even had any interest in reading the book, but I would like to think a nice gesture like that would inspire her. In a world where there is so much negativity and you hear the word ‘should’ on a daily basis, for her to see someone who went to the same school as her, grew up in the same area as her and had the same issues in school as her not only do something with their life but genuinely believe in her could be the boost she needs. You never know what people’s home lives are like and some people don’t ever get that encouragement to keep pushing. Even if the gesture made her smile then I’ll be happy…

And just like that my visit was over. It wasn’t the school I recognized but I felt incredibly fortunate that the old school was still there and I could see it before they knocked it down. Really annoyingly I forgot to take a photo with Mrs Mendelsohn, but I’m pleased to report that she is happy and looking well. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to Mrs Mendelsohn for taking the time out of her busy schedule to show me around the school and for being so accommodating. I wish you all the best in life and I hope we can keep in touch. All the best!

Oh, and enjoy your signed copy of the book, I hope you are not offended by it 😛

A Pretty Cool Book Review

For Christmas I gave my brother-in-law’s mum my book to read. She smiled and said she couldn’t wait to read it. I celebrated this by dancing like Luigi on Britain’s Got Talent…

A few days later she came over and told me that she’d given her book to her mum to read.

Let me tell you about her mum: she is an lady in her 80’s would speaks very eloquently and I assume is very well educated. Needless to say I didn’t expect to be allowed back into her home ever again after she read the sex scene and the extremely graphic drug references.

“Please tell me you are joking!” I asked her hoping that she was winding me up.

“No, I think she’ll like it!” She replied.

“She won’t…” My brother in law replied laughing.

A few days later Tricia (my brother-in-law’s mum) came back and told me that her mum liked it. Tricia has a heart of gold so I took this with a pinch of salt, thinking that she only said that to try and make me feel good.

Then a few days ago I was in the car with my sister and she told me she went over to Tricia’s mum’s house and that she had actually read the book. Well, part of it anyway…

“Normally I can tell within a few pages whether a book is going to be good or not. And I think your brother is a very good writer!” She said. “But once I got to the sex scene I couldn’t read any more. Did he have to be so graphic? It does flow really well though. I really liked it up until that point.”

Quite honestly, I’m chuffed to pieces with that. Someone who has zero connection with me who would be the last person I would aim the book at said she liked it (until the sex scene anyway) and she definitely is the kind of person to say if she wasn’t impressed. For me that suggests that the average person would find this a page turner. This might be my wake up call to try and contact a large publishing firm instead of self publishing, as they can reach a far larger audience than me. I’ve got the product. I just need to get it out there to the masses…

My Interview with B.B.Lewis

I recently got interviewed by a fellow blogger and up and coming writer known as B.B. Lewis. She asked me about my books, my thought process whilst writing them and my venture into self publishing. You can read the full interview here:

Puppies at Education Gateway

20150830_174739

I went to see an old friend of mine whose wife owns a school near the University. Towards the end of the night we saw the dog that normally sleeps by the front door. She was heavily pregnant, so we knew it was only a matter of time before she popped. That night she was breathing heavily and convulsing. Niels thought she was going into labour but I drew on my previous experience with Suzy (the husky) that normally dogs find their own personal space and are not sociable for a couple of days. After waiting half an hour I said to him I doubted she was going to have puppies and he should not worry about it.

It’s a good job I’m not a vet…

20150830_174818

Yep, the next day she had 10 healthy puppies, and a look of “Did you see? Did you see what I did?” spread across her face. So we spent the Sunday checking up on her every hour or so…

20150830_17481020150830_17475520150830_17474920150830_174745

Wait, Why were you visiting this Niels fellow?

I was visiting that Niels fellow because he said he was going to help me print a couple of my books, so when I meet people who sounded interested I could give them a copy of my book to read, and afterwards spread it around like an STD…

Lovely…

Well there’s that, and I can give a copy to people either in the marketing sector or people who feel they could make money from it and have better connections than me. In today’s society all it takes is one person to say they love something and it can snowball. And I can make a mean snowball (The drink AND the weapon…)

Erm… OK. What about the other book you claim to be publishing?

I’m still waiting on the editor and the girl that does my book covers. My old editor has gone back to America and I have no way of paying her unless I decide to stress myself out in terms of learning about international bank transfers, so I got a new editor. Unfortunately he is taking a long time and has already cost me double what I expected to pay, and I haven’t even seen the final product yet. Hopefully it’s worth the money, but I won’t find out until I see it.

First world problems… How’s life other than that?

It’s good. I’m leaving Thailand soon so I feel nervous because I haven’t travelled in a while. I know once I start I’ll be fine, but I’m in that transitional stage at the moment and I don’t know how to feel. I’m not used to not having an income so I’m hyper aware of any money I spend.

I also went out with a friend of mine called Diana. She rang me up and said, “Hey cousin, want to go bowling?” In Roman’s accent from GTA 4. I accepted and threw a few heavy balls down a shiny line. We played three games and I won all three. NO MERCY!!!!

20150827_133755

20150827_133748

Later on that evening I got a message from a friend of mine called Lena (who I actually named a character after in the book ‘Destiny’) asking if she and her boyfriend could take me out to dinner before I left. I didn’t want them to pay for me but one of the downsides of dramatically quitting your job with no plan B is that you don’t really have a source of income. So I reluctantly let them pay. It was a great meal; a great meal with great people. People who in truth I’m going to miss…

20150826_194449

So to sum up the life of Lewis; No book yet, maybe this week. I have a book in the form of a print out that I’ve been looking at, reading and smiling as I do so for the last few days, and I caned a Kazakh girl at bowling. No biggie. Tune in next week for most likely more emotional goodbyes…
